Sibley Memorial
In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is fitting that we share that last month the Lids Foundation donated $100,000 to Sibley Memorial Hospital to start the Lids Foundation Fund.
The Lids Foundation understands that simply accessing care can be a challenge for some patients due to a variety of factors that could cause an individual to delay or discontinue treatment. Some of the biggest challenges to patients in our community are costs surrounding access to childcare, transportation, prescription medications, and groceries. This fund will provide support for cancer patients in financial need, which may include transportation to and from Sibley, housing for patients who do not live close to Sibley, childcare, meal cards, grocery cards.
The Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Hospital is proud to care for more than 1,500 patients with cancer annually. Improving access to cancer care and reducing health-care disparities are top priorities. With the support of philanthropy, they have developed a multi-faceted approach to address health disparities in their community. Collaborating with clinical and social work teams, they are able to eliminate barriers to accessing care through generous philanthropic support.
There are many programs that Sibley Memorial has to aid access to cancer treatment like Patty’s Fund and Shoolman Fund for Pediatric Cancer, and now the Lids Foundation Fund being one of them. Watch this video to see how funds like these make an impact.
