Our Military Kids

This year the Lids Foundation donated $60,000 in grant funding to Our Military Kids to help provide 211 extracurricular activity grants for military children and teens whose parents were deployed with the National Guard or Reserve or service members from any branch of service in treatment for post 9/11 combat injuries, illnesses, or wounds.

Our Military Kids is a national nonprofit offering extracurricular activity grants to children, ages 3-18, of deployed National Guard, deployed Reserve, or post-9/11 combat wounded, ill, or injured Veterans in treatment. OMK activity grants build the children’s self-confidence, enhance family wellness, and strengthen a shared sense of community.

Our Military Kids began in 2004 as a meaningful way to give back to the National Guard and Reserve troops who were deployed in response to the 9/11 attacks. Initially a pilot project for children of the Virginia Army National Guard, the nonprofit quickly expanded to serve children throughout the United States.

A staggering 97% of Combat Injured Program families and 84% of Deployed Program reported they would not have been able to afford the extracurricular activity without an OMK grant.
